In fact I did not know the dreamers had even come up with a name for a Indy based MLB team.

I do remember Marge Schott quipping that Indy would never have a baseball team while she was alive. I suspect the owners in Chicago and St Louis would agree.

Besides, the Indianapolis Triple A team has one of the most perfect stadiums to watch baseball. And ticket prices are reasonable.Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17269114655802698386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628754.post-73086901904574964212011-12-11T08:36:06.793-05:002011-12-11T08:36:06.793-05:00Of course we built the stadium on spec. But by the late 1970's and early 1980' the team was only getting about 20,000 season ticket buyers and the stadium was but half-filled on game day.

Irasay by refusing to pay for decent players had a lot to do with it. Th estadium was falling apart and the city refused to build a new one. Indianapolis did.Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17269114655802698386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628754.post-46209761044785771612011-12-09T18:40:32.104-05:002011-12-09T18:40:32.104-05:00I lived in a rowhouse in Baltimore somewhere near ...I lived in a rowhouse in Baltimore somewhere near the stadium. I never saw the stadium but on the weekend we could hear the roar of the crowd. Those were the days of Johnny Unitas. We were not a football family but I remember that name. My daughter was born in Hopkins in 1966 so I think you have it wrong about lack of support for the Colts because that was the time I heard the roar.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628754.post-62154463484626838912011-12-09T13:44:31.791-05:002011-12-09T13:44:31.791-05:00The Baltimore Raisins! The Baltimore Raisins!Mockingbirdnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628754.post-57574926755502501082011-12-09T11:25:09.581-05:002011-12-09T11:25:09.581-05:00"After all, they do currently have a very suc..."After all, they do currently have a very successful NFL franchise."

Which, coincidentally, was packed up and moved to Baltimore in the middle of the night.Jon Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13855059447394883208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628754.post-53550417631844648782011-12-09T08:09:33.361-05:002011-12-09T08:09:33.361-05:00Funny, I don't even like the Colts (Bears fan ...Funny, I don't even like the Colts (Bears fan from infancy), and I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday.
