You, the one parked at pump 3 at Gas America this afternoon. Yes, you, the inconsiderate mouth-breather white trash asshole. You know who you are, the one with the country music turned so loud I could hear it before I turned into the gas station parking lot. You, inside, shooting the shit with the fat girl in the white T-shirt. You, with your white trash Joe Dirt wannabe scraggly beard and dirty baseball cap.
Thanks for entertaining us all with your radio turned up as loud as it would go, the bass at max. The country songs entertained all of us filling our vehicles. As you started your rusted gray piece of shit F 150 I know why your tunes were cranked full on -- your lack of muffler probably does make it hard to hear the radio. Hey, a piece of advice from the old HB, free of charge -- you do not have to rev the engine full up when your release the clutch. When you pop the clutch, the vehicle wants to die, so double clutching just makes your worn clutch problem worse; less gas, smooth peddles dude.
Oh, and that Marlboro hanging from your mouth at a jaunty angle might make you look really cool in front of the ladies, Smoking while gassing your rusted Ford F150 makes you a moron of the highest order.

Dear Liberal Reader
I am going to be blunt here. I am typing really slow so you will not miss my point. If you say the Republicans or George Bush caused the current economic situation, you are either a fucking idiot or a liar. If that hurts your feelings, sorry about that. I can take reasoned disagreement. I can accept a difference on policy. Refusal to accept that deregulation played only a very small part in this crisis, the real culprit was the policies of Carter, Clinton and the push to grant more minorities homeowners makes you blind. So screw you Nancy Pelosi, you worthless cunt, eat me John Kerry, and may you rot in hell Dodd and Frank. You caused this, now you want to be the savior? It makes me sick you cannot put the needs of the country ahead of politics for one lousy day. I do not think the taxpayers should be the bailers here, but we need our Representatives to come together to find a solution, not try to make political hay. Further, if you think raising taxes on businesses, capital gains and more government spending will get us out of this mess you are too fucking to stupid to live. Quit wasting my oxygen.
Like I said, I can take disagreement and reasoned debate, I will not tolerate fools.

Vote for Change. Vote for Hope.
Just do not vote for more of the same old policies brought to you by the politically-correct, socialist, Democrat party and their ultra-liberal leader The Barrack Obama.
I am not the first with this. Watch it and learn. I am still waiting on my liberal friends to prove me wrong on anything I have posted here. Electing The Obama will just give us more of the same that got us here. Bill Clinton -- you have a legacy after all.
H/T Big Dick.

Would you want to live in any of these places? Take some time. Google an endless list of search terms like "worst places to live", "highest crime rate", "highest unemployment", or "highest taxes" and these cities appear with regularity. What else do they have in common? They are all run by Democrats. Many of them have not had a Republican mayor for decades.
If you want your Federal Government to be run like New Orleans or East St. Louis,or Gary Indiana, then vote for Obama. His plan is very similar to that espoused by the mayors in these cities.
Here is a slogan for your yard:
Obama: I HOPE he does not CHANGE the US into Detroit
Think about it.

Friday Five Travelogue
In my travels I will stray from the beaten path to see a site of interest, if I have time. In Marshall County, Indiana, not far from Plymouth is the first monument or memorial erected to an Indian (Native American if you prefer) in the US.
It is the Chief Menominee Memorial. Menominee was a Potawatami. Say that with me --"Potawatami". Isn't that fun? Indian words are enjoyable. Ojibwa. Delaware. Tecumseh. Shawnee. Miami. Apache. Potoka. Milwaukee. Kickapoo. Menominee. Missisiniwa. Wabash. Tipecanoe. Mohican. Maumee. Shoshone. Winimac. I could go on forever.
Anyway, here are some pics:
clickee makee bigee
I was going to provide all kinds of historical references and facts for you, but now you have an assignment for the weekend.
Potawatami, indeed.

Help
So do you think it is a good thing the Government wants $700,000,000,000 or more (look at all of those zeroes)to bail out private businesses' bad decisions? This New New Deal will change Government forever.
What is amazing is that BOTH parties are at fault. The Republicans pushed for deregulation, and the Dems forced the banks et al.; to make bad loans. As usual, the Dems in charge made out like bandits, while crying about the money the executives made (yes Kids the leaders of those dysfunctional cousins Freddie and Fannie were Demos).
Here is a solution that will really work.
Supergurl turned me on to this and she is right -- call your Rep, Call your Senator.
If I lived in Illinois, I would be really, really pissed if my elected representative thought his political aspirations were far more important than actually representing them in what that candidate called "the most important economic issue of our time". I say that motherfucker is stealing $175,000 per year from the taxpayers. I think you should have to resign from the Senate, Governorship, etc. if you are going to run for higher office. The rest of us would get fired if we spent all day, every day looking for a better job instead of doing what we were hired for. What would your boss say if there was a big problem at work and you said, "well, call me if you need me"?

The Things I See
I was sitting ay a red light in Logansport, IN this afternoon. A very tall guy in a blue plaid shirt crossed in front of me. He was wearing very large sunglasses that covered a large portion of his face. He had curly dark hair. he was carrying an ataché case and a machete in a scabbord.
I wanted to ask him his story and get a picture, but I was a little afraid. Besides, the light turned green.

Wednesday Grab Bag
On the road again today, but through the miracle of scheduled posts, you see this post when I want you to. I have the power! Hey Freddie, if you see me in my crappy baby blue Taurus (I had no choice in the color) give me a wave. Wear your official Hoosierboy T-shirt and I will recognize you. The rest of you can get yours here. See what happens when I search my archives? I amuse myself sometimes.
I think I made a liberal commenter on another site's head explode. I pushed this individual so far they just erupted in a complete rant -- a case of full blown Bush Derangement Syndrome. Sorry, I just inserted some facts into the conversation...I have to quit poking these beasties with a sharp stick. On that site I guess I am considered a troll. I just like stirring a bit of trouble sometimes. The big difference is I do not resort to name calling, and I try to stick to facts.
I hate to have my picture taken. Some primitive tribes think a camera steals a bit of your soul when a picture is taken. A small part of me always wonders if they might be right? Anyway, I thought I might take a self portrait on the cell phone as a gift to the wife. I went outside Monday morning so I could have the BIG GRASS as a background. Without planning it, the morning shadows covered the top half of my face in an interesting manner. So yes, Erin, that is me in the picture from Monday. I took another that showed my hideous features, but I did not post that one. There are some pictures of me in the archives as a young man.
Go forth and prosper, we tax payers are about to take it in the shorts.

A sad day in the blog world
Apparently the Great and Powerful Bane passed away. I was one of those who read him every day, and I can offer this as the highest compliment:
He entertained the shit out of me.
If you are so inclined, please offer prayers for his wife and kids.
He entertained the shit out of me.

Apropos of nothing
Personally, I think Choc-cola was a far superior product to Yoo-Hoo.
Do they still make Choc-cola?
When I was a kid I liked Mason's Root Beer. I don't think they make it anymore either.
"an ugly balding impotent windbag" My self-portarait up there on the right is pretty accurate, no?
A year or so ago, I would get a dozen hits on a post about my lunch. I put up brilliant political posts these days and I get crickets chirping. What is up with that? Acidman always said that was the way of blogging.
I wish I could at least get a comment or two from some trolls so I could vent a little anger. I watched the Colts game on Sunday with some friends. He is a lifelong Union Guy/Democrat, but it was not worth getting into a discussion with him. We were there to watch football.

Voter Education for Liberals Volume 3
GuyK has been trying to make this point for a long time. He knows the truth because he used to be a business owner. I am going to give it a try and I hope I can convince at least one of you that taxing businesses is a socialist and idiotic plan. Businesses do not pay taxes.
The role of a business is NOT to provide jobs. That is a fundamental understanding you must possess. Let me repeat that. The role of business is NOT to create jobs. The role of a business is to make money. A business that does not make money for its owners will not be in business long. You should look with a sceptical eye when a Presidential candidate says he is going to create jobs. If the business that employs those workers cannot make money, there will be no jobs.
The Government, and I mean the Local, the State, and Federal Governments, only provide jobs and pay public workers by taking money from all workers and redistributing it. The Government does not make a product, sell a product or generate profit. It gets its money through taxes. It takes our money. Patriotism has nothing to do with it. If you are one of those people who thinks your new local park, road, Government Building was free because the Federal Government paid for it, you are an idiot. You paid for it, I paid for it, people in Arkansas and Indiana and Ohio paid for it. All of those roads, buildings and bridges in West Virginia -- Robert Byrd did not provide them. Your money -- taken from the wages due you -- paid for them.
The Obama says he is going to cut your taxes. Good, at least he understands reduced taxes is a good thing. Too bad he is going to make up the difference by taxing businesses. Get ready to pay more for everything you buy. Get ready to see more businesses and manufacturing plants move to Mexico and China and Indonesia and Vietnam. What? How is this possible? Well those of us who are not smelly hippies understand cause and effect, but what the heck. I will try to explain it in simple terms.
Let us say you own a business. If it makes you more comfortable it can be a commune or a small company that makes environmentally-friendly organic tiny little vases that allows you to keep fresh flowers in your hair when you visit San Francisco. You decide that it costs you a certain amount to buy the raw materials. It costs you to hire workers. You need to pay for office and manufacturing space. You need to pay for advertising and marketing. Even 'green' packaging has a cost. Electricity and solar panels and wind power have to be purchased and maintained. . If you take all of the items I outlined and add them together you have COST. Hopefully you sell your little hippy vases for more than cost. You might want to actually make a little money yourself. This is called profit. It is not evil. The difference between selling price and cost is profit. The percentage of cost compared to selling price is called profit margin.
If it costs you ninety cents to make the vases and you sell it for $1.00 you have a ten percent profit margin. If it costs $0.93 to make the vases and you sell them for $1.00 you will have a 7% profit margin. If you sell 1,000 vases you will make $70. If you make $700,000 you will have sold 10,000,000 little hippy flower vases. Your profit margin is still 7%. Your profits increased 999,900%. Your margin remained the same. Did you gouge anyone? Did you have windfall profits? Should we now consider you evil Big Vase? I have probably lost you hippy liberal types here. Look up the profit margin of evil Big Oil after you are done here.
Back to your little, but growing hippy vase manufacturing company. You are cruising along making hot hippy chicks happy because they can put flowers in their hair when they go to San Francisco. Suddenly, you get a bill in the mail from the Government. You owe TAXES. These include payroll taxes, permit fees, waste fees, property taxes, warehouse taxes, income taxes, etc. etc. You divide the taxes you owe by the number of hippy vases you make and discover the taxes equal $0.10 for every vase you make. You are only making $0.07 per vase, so the extra ten cents means you will lose three cents for every hippy vase you sell after you pay the taxes. If you sell 10,000,000 vases you will lose $300,000! Your only recourse is to raise prices. To keep the same 7% profit you made last year (and you really wanted to make a little more to get that new hybrid car)your new price for hippy flower vases is now $1.07 each. Some hot hippy chicks are going to have to pay just a bit more to put fresh flowers in their hair when they go to San Francisco.
Are still with me here, my Liberal Friends? What happens if the Government raises taxes on your business again? That is right, you will have to raise your prices more (please tell me I do not have to go through the math again). Thus, raising taxes on businesses equals higher prices for the consumer -- even hot hippy chicks who just want to put flowers in their hair if they go to San Francisco.
Hey guess what? The business did not really pay the taxes to the Government. The initial .010 per vase was rolled into the selling price and subsequent tax increases were too! Businesses really do not pay taxes.
Now, let us say the tax burden for your little hippy vases gets to a point where the vases cost more than hot hippy chicks are willing to pay to put fresh flowers in their hair if they go to San Francisco. You either go out of business, or find a way to make the vases cheaper. You try lower quality raw materials, you beat up your suppliers, but none of this works. Your costs (including the high taxes put on you by The Obama) are still too high to make a profit. You either close your business (disappointing hot hippy chicks who just want to put flowers in their hair if they go to San Francisco) or you decide to outsource the manufacturing to a place where labor and raw materials are cheaper. You are now one of those evil companies that shipped jobs out of the country -- Mexico or China or Indonesia or Vietnam, for instance. Because of this, The Obama wants to make you pay even higher taxes. You saved the jobs of the accountants, customer service people, shipping and receiving and quality departments, but that does not count. You sent jobs overseas. The Obama says you should pay even higher taxes.
You now take the final step. You become a Conservative and vote accordingly.
Why go through all of that pain? The Obama's plan is not good for the economy and will only result in higher prices and inflation for the same middle class people he wants to help. Thanks Obama.

Weekend Funny
As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus.
Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg She tried to take the step, only to discover that she couldn't.
So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more, and for the second time attempted the step.
Once again, much to her chagrin, she could not raise her leg. With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to take the step.
About this time, a large Hoosier who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus.
She went ballistic and turned to the would-be Samaritan and yelled, 'How dare you touch my body! I don't even know who you are!'
The Hoosier smiled and drawled, 'Well, ma'am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kinda figured we was friends.

Dang, I am good
I just wrote the most brilliant, educational, and sometimes humorous post ever for Fat in Indiana. When will it be posted? Maybe later today. It could be over the weekend. Maybe Monday Morning will shine light on my genius.
The only way to know is click here frequently.
I really have no shame.
For those of you who hate to wait, the post is already up at my other site...
Edit: This guy is an imposter -- he is not me.
neither is this guy
This is not me but I bet he could kick my ass
nor am I this guy, but Iwould love to me in FLA right now.
nope
absolutely not
not him either

A challenge for you
I am always looking to be entertained, to learn, to laugh. I read almost every blog over there on the right just about every day. I have a few more I read from my "favorites" list.
You have your own list of links. Here is a challenge for you. Tell me about a blog I should be reading that I am not. It can be political (either side), humor, or just an old fashioned 'slice of life' (those are some of my favorites BTW). Do not be shy, it could be your very own site, heck I do not care.
Let me know what I should be reading in the comments.

Something stinks at Fannie Mae
I know most of you do not read links. I don't either. This is one you should read. Were you outraged by the Eron scandal? Here is one that is worse.

How I spent my Wednesday
If you were paying attention and reading with intense scrutiny a few days ago, you might have caught the fact there was a tragic death here at the old homestead. Since we all know my musings and writings are important and will be a key historical source in the future, I know you caught the paragraph. For those of you new to the genius that is Fat in Indiana, here is the post in question. Yes Bambi, Thumper fell over dead in my backyard.
I keep my garbage in two large 50 gallon trash cans. After three or four days, can one is full of Hefty Tall Kitchen Bags containing the Hoosierfamily trash and garbage accumulated each day. We then move to fill can number two. Wednesday is trash pick-up day in my modest subdivision. This important information, and yes, Johnny, it will be on the test.
Saturday afternoon I found the bunny lying dead in the grass near my deck. He was only moderately stiff. The flies and insect had not yet eaten out his eyes, but they were buzzing around in excitement. I am sure their little fly dicks were hard as can be over the prospect of gorging themselves on rabbit stew, minus all of the stew stuff. Anyway, I scooped up little Peter Cottontail with a shovel. Believe it or not, some thought went into the scooping instrument. Does one use a spade, a snow shovel or gloved hands to dispose of partially mortified Sylvilagus floridanus? I used a spade, BTW. After a cursory examination to see if I could determine the cause of death (CSI Bunny?), the critter was dropped into a garbage bag. I tied the bag extra tight and tossed the makeshift bunny coffin into one of my trusty Rubbermaid brand Roughneck fifty gallon trash cans. That bit of bagged bunny filled up the container. Out of sight, out of mind.
Let us now fast forward to yesterday. The garbage men came and did their collectiony thing. Some time later, I moseyed out to retrieve my garbage cans to put them back in the corner of garage. As I neared the curb I was assailed by the most odious odor imaginable. It was a low skunky clinging smell. It permeated your clothes, your hair, your mouth and I swear I could even hear it. It was strong. You guessed it -- it was the smell of dead and decaying bunny, stewing away in a tightly closed 50 gallon Rubbermaid brand Roughneck trash container, unopened for four days.
Gagging, I dragged the can to the side of the house and washed it out with the hose. The stink curled out of the can like a cartoon ghost and laughed at me. I sprayed a half of bottle of Fabreeze. I swear the stink got stronger.
Right now the can is sitting outside the garage, sans lid. I dumped a whole box of baking soda into it. Let us see if the hammer and arm are more powerful than rabbit stink. We are supposed to have good weather for the next several days, so I hope Mother Nature's pure breeze and gentle wind will jump in like cheating tag team wrestlers and help out the baking soda.
I hope no more critters drop dead in my yard. If they do, I know where there is a dumpster nearby.
Obama is just smarter
At first I was told I did not support The Obama because I was racist. Now it is because I am just stupid:
The Obama sure does want to bring the country together doesn't he? I am inspired by his campaign's unifying message.

Random Ramblings
Cubs win. The magic number is now FOUR. I do not know about Nathan, but I am starting to believe. Of course, just making the playoffs is not enough. We have been there and done that a few times in recent years. Only a World Series victory can make the world right.
I made some chili at the wife's request last night. And cornbread. I know that is a sentence fragment. I do not care. I think I will have some cornbread for breakfast. Some bacon would go great with the cornbread. A chunk of ham and some grits would go great with the bacon. A couple of eggs over easy would go great with ham. While we are at it, a bit of sausage gravy and biscuits would go along nicely with the eggs. I am not going to fix all of that, so I guess I will just have a hunk of cornbread and some coffee.
I am going to try and take the day off politics. Believe it or not, I do have a life. And a job. Another sentence fragment. And another. Whoops, that last one makes at least four in this post.
I have been on a posting jag lately, several a day and and two in queue, ready to go. You probably should plan on hitting this site at least four or five times a day, just to see if you have missed anything. Do it -- I will be checking up on you. If you loved me you would. Come on, it hurts if you don't. Men bloggers just need it more I guess. Come on, baby, please -- don't make me beg. Just click on the site. I will click on yours.

I now own an insurance giant
I have never been afraid to admit when I do not know or understand something. I am not sure how I feel about the Government stepping in to save another private business.
If I worked at Lehman Brothers or even a small local business and lost my job, I would be pissed. Why is an employee of AIG more worthy of keeping his job than another?
As a small L libertarian and staunch conservative I do not think it is the role of the Government to bail out a private company. On the other hand, experts say that the failure of AIG could have severe economic implications globally. I just do not know.
Look, some businesses are more important than others. My big $7 MUSD customer is way more important and gets treated differently than my $5,000/yr specialty motor maker customer. Welcome to life.
I just cannot help feeling something is just not right in the whole mess. I do not think anyone really knows how to fix the problems. Maybe the best path is to let it all play out under natural economic laws and suffer the pain. I don't know.

Obama claims in a TV ad heard here in Indiana that he has not taken money from lobyists and will not in his administration. I guess he means unless it comes from failed mortgage brokers headed by former Clinton Administration empoyees. I stole this from Braden's Corner

What if there is a bank run?
I had the opportunity to share lunch with the lovely Mrs. today. We were discussing the bank issues that are dominating the news. She used to work at a bank and is intimately familiar with the inner workings. I mentioned I heard a talking head say that if one was smart you would make sure you pulled out anything more than $100,000. The wife said that was all that was guaranteed by the FDIC. I asked her what would happen if several people showed up at the local branch and asked for their money. We talked about the amount of cash a bank might keep on hand.
I told her I was glad that the bank could cover our withdrawal needs from the tellers drawer if we wanted to make a run on the bank. She laughed and said no, probably from the ATM. I corrected her, the bank teller could probably cover our savings from his wallet.
Welcome to life with two kids in college.

Blame Bush for Lehman Brothers.
I will be the first to admit that economics is not my strongest suit. I have been looking into the financial meltdowns and mortgage crisis (they are related BTW). I know most of you do not read links, but this is one you should if you want to understand what is going on. Just to tease you, here is a quip:
Read the whole thing. Bush might be to blame for some things, but not this one. Even Karl Rove is off the hook.
Obama and Democrats on the Hill think even more regulation and more interference in the market will solve the problem their policies helped cause. For now, unarmed by the historic record, conventional wisdom is buying into their blame-business-first rhetoric and bigger-government solutions.
While government arguably has a role in helping low-income folks buy a home, Clinton went overboard by strong-arming lenders with tougher and tougher regulations, which only led to lenders taking on hundreds of billions in subprime bilge.
Market failure? Hardly. Once again, this crisis has government's fingerprints all over it.

On the economy
Sometimes someone just says it better than I ever could:

But is the economy fundamentally sound? Yeah, I reckon so. It is as long as congress will let the economy work. But congress can't pass laws requiring banks to loan to people who are not credit worthy then expect banks to not go under. Congress cannot make laws that penalize producers for producing then wonder why the economy tanks because producers are leaving the country in droves...taking their jobs and what money they can with them. The American worker has always been one of the most productive if not the most productive on this earth. American inventors and entrepreneurs have been the drivers of the world's economy for going on two centuries... and can continue to be so if government will back off and let them without undue regulation and taxes. Yeah, the economy is fundamentally sound because the economy after all is the American people..and I still have faith in the American people..even some of the dim-a-critsGuyK

Voter Education for Liberals Volume 2
Whoopie Goldberg, and many other liberals, believe that a strict reading of the Constitution by Supreme Court Justices will mean she will be forced to be a slave.
Forget the fact she may or may not have been a relative of a former slave, forget that she may live in what could have been described as a "Free State" and that she was not a fugitive slave (therefore Dred Scott would not apply). The key issue is that Article V describes the means to change the Constitution:
So, under the power granted by the above Article, Slavery was abolished under the XIII Amendment:
As if that were not enough, the XIV and XV Amendments were passed to make sure all citizens were allowed to vote and were entitled to the same protections and Rights under the Constitution regardless of race. Finally Whoopie, you were given the right to vote under the XIX Amendment:
So a strict reading of the Constitution not only ensures you cannot ever be a slave, Whoopie Goldberg, but that you have the same protections as the rest of us. It is only the so-called "living document" interpretation that can take away your rights. The Liberal view that we should base our Constitution and its interpretation on current international law is a path to taking away your rights. What if "current international law" favors Islamic Shari'a? Good luck with that.
Only a strict interpretation of the letter of the Constitution protects your rights.
Prove me wrong.

Article V
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.
So, under the power granted by the above Article, Slavery was abolished under the XIII Amendment:
Amendment XIII
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
As if that were not enough, the XIV and XV Amendments were passed to make sure all citizens were allowed to vote and were entitled to the same protections and Rights under the Constitution regardless of race. Finally Whoopie, you were given the right to vote under the XIX Amendment:
Amendment XIX
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Because I enjoy banging my head against rough concrete walls, I am going to try once again to point out the idiocies of the leftist's positions. It is my intent to offer a dose of truth into the elections. As always, feel free to correct me, argue with me, prove me wrong.
George Bush cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans and McCain wants to do the same.
Taxes are also further addressed in the XVI Amendment (note: Amendments are part of the Constitution):
Simply, Congress sets tax law. Congress sets bankruptcy law. The President did not cut anyone's taxes. The Obama cannot cut taxes for 80% of us, Bush did not cut the taxes of the wealthy. The President did not set banking laws that have allowed the current financial/banking/mortgage crisis. If you believe otherwise, you are a complete and total dumbass. This is a theme I will be using often for this series. To better prepare yourself I recommend a serious reading of the Constitution.
I can anticipate your next objection, that the Republican Congress passed the Bush proposed tax cuts for the wealthy. According to the IRS the top 1% of income earners payed 36.3% of all taxes in 2000, the last year Democrats controlled the Presidency. In 2005 (the last year available) under a Republican President and Republican Congress the top 1% paid 38.42% of the taxes. I guess the rich did not get the tax breaks after all. The same increase can be seen on the top 5%, 10%. 25% and 50% of wage earners. If you believe the top 50% of wage earners are the wealthy, rest assured they paid a larger share under Bush and the Republican Congress than they did under Clinton (98.01% vs.98.63%). For the record, the top 50% of wage earners made around $30K or more. Are you rich if you made 30K?

Article 1, Section 8 reads as follows:
Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
To borrow money on the credit of the United States;
To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;
To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;
To coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures;
To provide for the punishment of counterfeiting the securities and current coin of the United States;
Taxes are also further addressed in the XVI Amendment (note: Amendments are part of the Constitution):
Amendment XVI
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Monday Musings
Big Z pitched a no-no for the Cubbies last night. Too bad it was not TV here in the sticks.
The Colts won a game they should not have (I am not sure that Addai crossed the plane for a TD either), and Denver stole one on the strength of a Ref's whistle.
I really, really hate the Cowboys. I bet there is an interesting bet between Kelly and Big Dick for tonight's game. Sorry Dick, but I have to root for theEagles anyone playing the Cowboys.
Brett Favre's team was defeated by a QB whose last start was a high school game.
The weekend weather was not as bad as expected, but a couple of trees were downed in the neighborhood.
It is cloudy and cool today, whether we like it or not fall is here.
I found a dead rabbit in the back yard while mowing Saturday. There was no discernible cause of death, it looked like it was sleeping. I am pretty sure it was the same rabbit that hid in the bushes by my deck all summer. It was just a baby this spring.
My 2009 Sales Plan is due in a couple of weeks and I have not even started working on it.
Did you see that shot to the knee Charlie Weiss took? Boy, does Michigan look bad.
I have not had any bacon for a couple of weeks. I am sure that is a contributing factor to my short temper. I blew my efforts toward eating healthier this morning. I am having a Dr, Pepper instead of coffee.
We went out for a nice dinner last night to celebrate my Daughter's 22nd birthday. My wife is still trying in vain to get a decent picture of the kids to put into a picture frame my daughter bought her. Here are yesterday's failed efforts:
Maybe she can get a good picture with all three smiling and not making faces at Thanksgiving, but I doubt it.

Whoopie Goldberg is a dumbass
I swore I was not going to post about politics today, but the sheer stupidity of those on the left just pushes me to the limit.
Whoopie Goldberg is smug leftist dimwit in the image of Rosie O'Fatso. How someone with no discernable talent gets to be a TV host kills me. How anyone can actually respect the commentary of a comic, an actor, as real political commentary is beyond me.
Let me spell it out Whoopie, when McCain says he will nominate Supreme Court Judges who will rule on the letter of the Constitution, that does not mean he will bring back slavery. Three Amendments took care of that issue you stupid, stupid, stupid cunt - the 13th. 14th. and 15th. A strict reading of the Constitution will also reveal that eighteen year olds and women will still get to vote. Prohibition will still be repealed. The ERA will still not be passed (How about that WOMAN running for VP, you ERA fans). See it here, you may have to scroll to find the right video. Too bad McCain pandered to her in his answer, he should have pointed out the Amendments are PART of the Constitution. What he does mean is that the SCOTUS will not be able to make up laws. They will not be able to use the laws of other countries as a basis of their rulings. They will have to acknowledge the 10th Amendment.
Why McCain would go on that show, where he will not get a fair chance to air his view is beyond me. Maybe The Obama will agree to be interviewed by Rush?
This is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time:
stolen from GOC.

Friday Five
Hah, just screwing with you, there is no Friday Five today.
The rain has set in and the weather quack says we can expect to have rain until at least Tuesday.
Today is Homecoming at the local high school. The boy's buddies are trying to talk him into painting his chest for the game. I bet he doesn't.
We are heading into birthday season here at the old homestead. The daughter will be 22 on the 14th, my brother (sometimes commenter/poster Otter) will be ___on the 22nd.
The youngest will be 15 on September 30, and the oldest boy will be 20 on October 1. Yes, all my kids have birthdays within two weeks of each other. I guess January historically has been a good month for me! Do the math.
If I were one of the fifty Governors, I would be more than pissed today. If The Obama does not condemn in the strongest language the comments from Democrats equating Governor Palin with Pontius Pilate, he is a willing participant.
Governor Palin did not come off so well in the excerpts from the interview with ABC I saw this morning. How any politician cannot have any idea of the Bush Doctrine is not clear to me. Of course Bush has not followed his doctrine so I guess it is unfair to hold someone's feet to the fire for not remembering a dead concept.
I am operating on half speed today, the corporate types are off today for the Company picnic, I guess I might hold my own version here.

Preaching to the choir
I cannot believe I am still seeing the same old belief in fairy tales from those on the left.
The Republicans stole the 2000 Election Independent counts by at least five different commissions and media representatives have recounted the votes in Florida and GW Bush won in every count. You should probably get your facts straight before you look like bigger idiots.
John Kerry was defeated through lies The Democrats now use "swiftboated" as a verb to describe a negative, untrue attack. There is only one problem, no one has ever stepped forward and proved the claims by those who actually served with Kerry were false. Kerry himself only claimed the attacks were unfair. This whole issue could be settled easily -- Kerry should release his military records, as he promised to do some four years ago. I cannot believe (well, yes I can) that the media lets this 'swiftboat' verb go unchallenged.
Clinton was impeached for having an affair No, he was impeached for perjury. He lied under oath in a court case about sexual harassment of a female worker in Arkansas. I would have thought the NOW gang would have been all over this, but I guess they are only an organization for women with a liberal political bent. He was disbarred for these lies.
We are in the middle of the worst economy since... Except the economy has grown every quarter for almost six years. We still have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. Our productivity is the highest in the world. Yes, things are not as good as they were, and we have some economic issues, but maybe we should point out that most of the negative things have occurred while the Democrats have controlled Congress?
We cannot drill our way out of high gas prices If you believe this you are an idiot. More supply = lower prices. We should pursue alternate energy and conservation. Reducing the horsepower of American cars would help immediately. But drilling for own resources (and Yes Mrs. Pelosi, natural gas is a fossil fuel too!) would have an effect on prices. It may take time, but no longer than it does to invent, test , develop and market an alternative. There is an conservative estimate that we have enough oil to meet our needs for the next 250 years. Consider that 250 years ago most of this nation was wilderness, the French and Indian War and Revolution had yet to be fought. Transportation was by shanks mare or horse or sail. We did not start using oil as a source for fuel until 125-150 years ago. I am sure technology will find a replacement in the next 250 years.
Bush attacked Iraq for no reason His list of reasons was the same ones President Clinton used when he bombed Iraq.
Bush has sold our country to the Chinese It was the Clinton administration that let the Chinese take control of Long Beach Harbor and both ends of the Panama Canal. It was the Clintons who sold the Chicoms the missile aiming technology and took millions in campaign funds.
The Bush administration is responsible for the high foreclosures Banks and individuals make loans. Banks made bad lending decisions, people took out loans they could not afford. Just like the dot-com bubble and the high oil prices today, some people looked at buying and selling loans as a good way to make money. When it was no longer profitable they jumped out and the last guy holding the loan (like Bear Sterns) got burned in this real-life game of hot potato. I am pretty sure Karl Rove did not force one single person to sign a high interest or variable rate mortgage.
Bush is responsible for the falling dollar I will give you partial credit for this, he did not use his veto pen like he should have. On the other hand, you need a civics lesson (and no, that is not about Japanese made cars). Congress passes spending bills. That would be both Democrats and Republicans. High deficits results in a falling dollar. Email me and I will explain that in detail if you have no understanding of basic economics. A weak dollar results in higher oil prices. Read my archives I explained that in detail some time ago.
Tax Cuts only help the rich 30 years prove this wrong. In fact it was that Democrat icon JFK who first proposed the notion that cutting taxes would help the economy and bring increased revenue and wealth for all. If this was not true, why would the Democrat controlled Congress send us a "tax rebate" to "spur the economy"?
Oh, this is an exercises in futility. If you really believe Bush stole the election, there is no hope you will listen to facts and reason about the rest. You probably believe the local licence branch or Social Security Office is a productive experience and that we want those same people running our health care system. You probably think FDR's New Deal was a great idea, and Alger Hiss was framed. You have no issue with the Rosenbergs selling nuclear secrets to the Soviets. You think nuclear power is a problem, and we should cry over trees. You believe the polar bears are dying and the polar ice cap is melting. You are convinced the world is in a climate crisis. You think America is the cause of the world's problems and if we could just talk reason then the world would love us. You think we would be safer if we could just get rid of all guns, and maybe we really should give peace a chance. I bet you think the military is bad and you have serious issues with the Boy Scouts. You do not think we should keep score in soccer games. You believe in open borders and that the Government should control prices and wages. You are against killing criminals and for killing babies. You believe insects and mice and snail darters and owls are more important than people. You are against hydroelectric power, coal power, nuclear power and wind farms near your house, but complained when the power grid went down a few years ago. You believe it makes sense that we drive smaller cars, so that we all have less chance to survive a collision. You think it could be possible Bush blew up the World Trade Center and that putting underwear on your head is torture. You think suburbs are evil and that a crucifix in a jar of urine is art. You really believe the Jews in Israel are practicing apartheid and send money to the Palestinian cause. You support Jimmy Carter. You believe in the UN. You like the designated hitter rule. You see nothing weird or wrong or crazy about anything in this paragraph.
Things I know
Here is a list of five ten several things I know:
1. I am in a good mood today. My daughter came to visit last night. It is the first I have seen her in over a month. Plus she brought me some oatmeal scotchies she made.
2. History will paint Ronald Reagan as one of our greatest Presidents
3. Some enterprising producer should make a movie about George Rogers Clark. I have been doing a bit of research for a future blog post (boredom alert), and his exploits make Rambo look like a pussy.
4. Global Warming is a monumental hoax
5. Roe v. Wade will not be overturned in my lifetime, nor will the second amendment. To do away with either would put the country in political peril. It would also ensure the other side would win the next several elections, and neither the Dims or the Pugs are willing to let that happen.
6. Peanut Butter and honey or jelly is a classic lunch, especially served with Fritos. Choosy mothers choose Jiff (smooth) and there is no way I am going to let anyone say my Mom did not give me the best. If you use any other kind of peanut butter, you are make a grave error in life.
7. Sensible people load the toilet paper so it unrolls from the top of the roll, not the back.
8. Anyone who believes the only reason Marxism/socialism/Communism hasn't worked so far because the right people have not been in charge is a fucking uneducated idiot with no grasp of history.
9. Beef and noodles should be served with mashed potatoes. Breaded pork tenderloin should be served with macaroni and cheese.
10. The defense of Rorke's Drift is one of the most heroic events I have ever read about. I am certain the movies and written accounts do not give justice the fear, confusion and desperate fighting endured by both sides.
11. I think this past Sunday we saw three of the best ten quarterbacks ever to play the game of football start for their respective teams.
12. I think Steve Howe is an underrated guitar player and there is no reason on earth that Yes is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (and Run DMC is?).
13. Fall is going to take this foot and whop us on the right cheek and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. There will still be a few summer-like weekends to come, but snow will fly in less time than we want to believe.
14. A good cigar and a cold beer will do wonders to improve your outlook on a bad week. getting laid will do that too, as far as I can remember.
15. I miss having a dog around.
16. The Sand Pebbles is an awesome movie.
17. If you want some good reading try one of these authors: Stephen Hunter, WEB Griffith, Stephen Coonts, Louis L'Amour, Tim Dorsey, or Patrick 'Brian. (Are you reading this Ralph?)
18. I will not be writing a September 11 post tomorrow. If you have to be reminded, there is no hope for you.

This makes me sick
I found the link below over at Braden's Corner, and I will have to quote him becasue I could not say it better.
Here is the great example of Liberal Compassion
I bet we hear howls of outrage from left-leaning folks.
"And here I thought liberal Democrats were a compassionate, diverse, and tolerant group of people?
Damn, me and my wishful thinking."

Cubs lose again
The wife can rest easy, my boast that I will get the Cubs logo tatooed on my shoulder when they win the World Series is looking less and less likely to happen. The Cubs blew another one in the bottom of the ninth last night. "It" is never going to happen, they are destined to be the lovable losers. My Grandpa was a huge Cubs fan, and he was not alive the last time they won the Series. He died never seeing them win it. Only my Daughter cheers on the boys from the Northside, and that is only because her boyfriend is a huge fan. Maybe she will see it in her lifetime. The boy is smart, he cheers on the Red Sox. I would rather eat a shit sandwich than cheer on an American League team, unless they were playing the Dodgers, or any team playing the Yankees.
Hell yeah
What he said. Go read it and try to argue. James is one old vet I would vote for President.

An open post to you
Some of my links over there to the right are to female writers. In the past politics were only a small part of their musings. Now politics makes up a significant portion of their rants. I am OK with that because a) it is political season and b)they can write whatever they want.
What I find interesting is that these sites are written by what I consider independent, intelligent women. Yet, for some reason the idea of a female Vice-President sends them into complete hysterics. I hate the term feminist, but I would think women of all stripes would be happy to see that at least one political party is looking beyond sex and choosing the right person for the job. Was Palin picked because she was a woman? Probably, but her political beliefs also came into play. For me, it is her conservative values and willingness to finally attack the Democrats that garners my support, I could care less if the person in question is a woman, man, black, white, green, or a fuzzy marmot. The attacks I have seen from my blog buddies is not about politics, but labeling her a Barbie, or attacking her family. Could it be that NOW, just like the NAACP, is only in favor of advancing their cause if the person in question has the right political bent? Here is a person not only breaking the glass ceiling, but beating it to shards with a sledge hammer, and all she gets is attacks from women? I do not get it.
Look, no matter what your beliefs, we need to understand the Government is no more going to "control your uterus" than they are going to get rid of Medicaid or Social Security. In the 35 years since the Roe v. Wade decision Republicans have controlled the White House 23 of those years. They have also controlled the House and Senate at various times. The decision has not been overturned. A state mandated religion has not been installed and your freedoms as outlined in the Bill of Rights have not disappeared(except for number 10, and that was eviscerated long ago). By the same token, if your hope for this election is that R v Wade will be overturned, you are in for a big disappointment.
I think we can civilly disagree about a lot of stuff. I may not agree with your political bent, but I will keep reading your stuff. What confuses me is the amount of hatred that comes from the supposedly compassionate Democrat side of the spectrum. I have not seen or heard Republicans hoping there is a lot of destruction from a hurricane so it would disrupt a convention, or wanting to dump urine on books they do not agree with. I find it disgusting anyone would call for a paternity test on the children of a candidate. How offensive would it be if I stated the overwhelming statistics for minority children to be born out of wedlock and demanded Mrs. Obama prove her kids were really Obama's?
Why is it that the press and lefty bloggers always claim Conservative men and women are dumb? Why is Hillary considered smart, after all, contrary to all evidence and past record, she believed there was a vast right-wing conspiracy out to frame her husband. (I am still waiting on an apology BTW). If McCain had claimed he had visited all 57 states we would still be hearing about it. Look, I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I am pretty sure I can look at history and see some patterns. Socialism and Communism have failed miserably everywhere they have been tried. Making everyone miserable is not a formula for success. Thinking otherwise does not make you more nuanced, smarter or more cosmopolitan. It puts you smack in the middle of a river in Egypt. Think about it.
edit: The thought of a Bible Thumper living in the Naval Observatory scares me a whole lot less than the thought of Bill Ayres or Louis Farrakhan or Jeremiah Wright advising the occupant of the White House, but that is just me.

Oh yeah, that was it
Via Parkway Reststop, I found a wonderful site called Shorpy. There are some unbelievable pictures there. It is amazing how much resolution you can see on the old pictures. For anyone who loves photography or history, you will be stuck there for hours. here is an example of the stuff you can see:
go here to see it full size
I love the contrast of cars and horse dung in the street. Imagine ladies navigating the city in a long dress when the street are filled with stinky road apples!
Anyway, I remember what I was going to post about Saturday. The picture above shows a vista of life at the turn of the twentieth century. I have long maintained that is one of the periods I would visit if I possessed a time machine.
What period in time would you visit?

Hot Librarians
I have seen and read many opinions that the lovely Mrs. Palin has the look of a "hot librarian". I guess it is the glasses and piled up hair. I personally think glasses are sexy, Mrs. HB has sported a pair for more than two decades. I have never been too enamoured of the hair in a bun look (or long hair for that matter).
Here is a little known secret...I was once a librarian. I have been to librarian conventions. Here are two observations:
Librarian conventions are not as fun as you would imagine.
The proverbial "hot" librarian does not exist. Maybe she does, but never at any of the functions I attended.

Another Brilliant Post
Just like Brittany, I did it again. I was sitting around Saturday doing nothing and had a brilliant idea for a post. I thought it would be better to post it today, rather than on Sunday since you slackers never seem to come around on the weekend (we need to have a discussion about your priorities sometime soon).
Here it is Monday morning, the beginning of a promising week and I have no idea what it was I was going to post.
Getting old sucks. Maybe I will remember later. Rest assured, the concept/post was going to be entertaining, humorous, educational and brilliant.

Saturday, Saturday
I have stated here before, I rarely dream and if I do,I usually do not remember it. This morning I had a disjointed crazy dream, and fragments are still floating in my brain pan. Of course things that make perfect sense while you slumber away in the arms of Morpheus seem downright schizophrenic in the harsh light of day. I do know that at least part of the dream involved going back to college. I have this dream every fall. Psych majors would likely tell me this is reflection I want to return to a more carefree time. Just as the calender moves to fall and the days get cooler and the leaves fall from the trees, I too am entering the Autumn of life. My hair is receding, and I do not pursue activities with the same vigor as I did in my youth. Maybe it means I want to keep learning. Perhaps it is a reflection of the time of year, after all, kids are going back to school. Maybe, it is just a dream.
Not much is on tap this weekend. Some house cleaning, a little yard work. I hope to get in some quality nap time and reading. I might find a good movie. No cartoons for this weekend, my well has run dry. I might have to resort to reruns.
Enjoy your day.

Sarah Palin Should Not Be Vice President
I wanted to comment on her speech yesterday, but I was travelling and my Treo was not working.
Based on her speech of Wednesday, I have to unequivocally state that I do not think Sarah Palin should be Vice President.
She should be running for President.

One more reason to vote for The Ombama
There is little doubt that Dan Quayle is one of the most ridiculed politicians in modern times. The left and the press excoriated him for his lack of experience. They claimed he was not prepared to be the man "a heartbeat away" because of his lack of experience. It is sure funny how things change over a couple of decades.
Quayle served as a member of the US House of Representatives and two terms in the Senate prior to being named as number two on George Bush I's ticket. I will grant that is not a lot of experience, but compare that to The Obama's three terms in the Illinois Government (where he had a preponderance of "Present" votes) and his whopping 143 days as a US Senator and Chairman of a committee that never met.
It is pretty telling when The Obama's experience makes Dan Quayle look a seasoned political veteran.

Why I am rooting for da Mets
It is a pretty sad day when a boy from the heartland roots for anything from the Big Apple. As a lifelong Cubs fan, cheering on the Mets leaves a particular bad taste on my tongue, something akin to the flavor of skunk, garlic, broccoli, and Listerine-infused turds. 1969 haunts true Cubs fans still.
The Cubs dropped another game last night, the fourth in a row. Thankfully, the Mets posted a victory over the evil Brewers to keep the Cubs a nice margin ahead in the NL Central.
So I hoist an imaginary interwebz cold one to Erica and her Metsies, may they continue to master the foes from Milwaukee.
And a quick personal note to Skipper Pinella -- Howry just ain't getting it done.
What he said
Sometimes others just state what you want to say. In most cases they do it better than I ever could.
Here is a man who says it perfectly.

Tuesday Musings
Is it just me, or does the news media seem genuinely disappointed that New Orleans was not affected more by Hurricane Gustav?
What is more important, Sarah Palin's daughter being knocked up and her husband's arrest for DWI more than 20 years ago, or The Obama's close association with a known and unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayres? If you are unaware, Ayres was part of the Weather Underground, an anti-war group that bombed public buildings, including the Pentagon and NY City police headquarters. Many of his associates were killed when a bomb they were building exploded in their Greenwich Village headquarters. Many believe the bomb was destined for Fort Dix. The Weathermen also were key participants in a Robbery of a Brinks Truck in New York where several policemen were killed.
Which candidates associations are scarier to you, Palin and her daughter or The Obama and the terrorist/bomber? Read the whole interview. If you are allowing these people to teach your kids at The University of Illinois, Chicago, you are a failure as a parent.
Do you think anyone in the Colt's coaching staff is staying up nights worrying about the potent Bears offense led by Kyle Orton?
The Cubs are in the middle of a three game losing streak. They are still 30+ games over .500. They have not won the World Series since 1908. Are we looking at destiny or 1969?
I could get used to 4 day work weeks.
Wouldn't it be nice if the media dug as hard at The Obamas background as they have Palin's? What do we really know about him, besides his mentors all have one common theme -- they hate America (see Bill Ayres, Rev. Wright). Maybe the media could point out that The Obama's plan for America is straight from Karl Marx' Communist Manifesto.

Ayers was asked in a January 2004 interview, "How do you feel about what you did? Would you do it again under similar circumstances?" He replied:source
I’ve thought about this a lot. Being almost 60, it’s impossible to not have lots and lots of regrets about lots and lots of things, but the question of did we do something that was horrendous, awful? ... I don’t think so. I think what we did was to respond to a situation that was unconscionable.

Three Day Weekend
There is not much to relate. Friday we went to see a movie. Saturday, the boy had a tennis match. The wife was sick, so we did nothing. Sunday I mowed, the boy went to a couple of parties and the wife went to visit her mother. A whole weekend in about fifty words. There is not much on tap for today.
I have not watched the news, I have not read blogs, so I really have nothing to say beyond enjoy your Labor Day.
