Per my comment below regarding Perdicaris and Raisuli, here is a highly fictionalized version of Teddy Roosevelt's response to that situation from the movie The Wind and the Lion:
African Muslims kidnap an American woman and hold her and her family ransom. TR calls bullshit and sends the Marines. By the way, it is popular gossip that actual Marines were used in the filming of this scene. True or not this is one of the finest scenes in film. "hostiles to the left..."
I cannot help but think Nathan is right in his comments, a little kick ass response from the military might of the USA on the Somali leaders just might put a stop to this pirate nonsense.
