The Doobie Brothers was (were?) the first real, big-time band I ever saw live in concert. I saw them at old Market Square Arena in Indianapolis sometime in the mid to late 1970's. I have seen them a couple of times since. Like many 1970's bands the Doobie Brothers went all ballady/jazzy for a period and it ruined them, just like a similar path did in Styx, REO and Journey. I suppose they thought abandoning their rock roots was the way to overcome the vileness of the punk movement. Besides it sold records. Still, compare this gem to the sickening
What a Fool Believes.
