Yesterday I cut down a cedar tree and trimmed the branches and cut the trunk into manageable hunks. Then I cut, chopped, hoed, and hand tilled about half the ground cover. No one asked, cajoled, or guilted me into working. It just needed done. No cigar, no book, no cold brew on the patio, just a lot of darn hard toil in the summer sun. But today...
The HOA doesn't mind you cutting down trees?

It was a small cedar about 10' high behind a 6' privacy fence under the branches of a massive willow that is easily 50' tall. The HOA won't notice and I did not ask. There is a fir tree next to it that is ugly as hell. The previous owners cut the top off at some point, I suppose for a Christmas tree. It is coming down next. I am going to plant something more attractive as a replacement in the spring. The HOA in the neighborhood is pretty benign.
