I have spent a considerable amount of time in Iowa over the past 12 months. That gives me absolutely no insight about the political climate in the state. Further, I don't want to know. I am at that " I don't give a shit" point of the Presidential campaign. I have not invested a lot of time or energy studying the candidates positions. At first blush my choice is a clear "none of them", but perhaps by the time the Indiana primaries roll around I will like one of the choices a bit better. Still, is this the best we can do?
On the Democrat side we have the choice between an old math-challenged hippie socialist and an old compulsive liar who is also a socialist.
On the Republican side we have a blowhard billionaire, a Narcissist, a supporter of amnesty for all and another damn Bush. On the bright side a recent poll reported that 25% of the federal workforce said they would quit if Trump was elected. If he promised not replace them he would get my vote.
Anyway, I don't care about Iowa politics. Good for you if the cornhusker vote has a deep interest to you.
Assuming you are characterizing Cruz as the narcissist, I think that is highly simplistic and unworthy of you, Joe. Remember who's responsible for that meme: The Republican establishment, who hate his guts because he's not afraid to be a conservative and speak hard truths.
ReplyDeleteHaven't we had enough of "can't we just get along?" If nobody in the Senate likes him, for me, that's a net positive.
And by the way, I don't care about Iowa politics, either. Iowa is demographically-suspect for pulling the weight it does in the early running.
ReplyDeleteThe trick is, if you wait till the Indiana primary, you aren't going to have much of a choice left, because all the early states are going to winnow the field before you cast a ballot.
I've long thought that primaries ought to be held on a single day, say the 2nd Tuesday in May, 6 months before the general. But too many states think they're too important to be lumped in with everyone else.
What I'd really prefer is a return to the smoke-filled room and the brokered convention. We got better candidates in those days.
I don't worry about picking a candidate until just before the primary in which I get to vote. Otherwise, the one I pick may not be around by then. It's happened before. When I know who's left, then I make my final pick. I do have my "no way I'll vote for" candidate(s) already picked out. I do have a narrowing of candidates in that way.
ReplyDeleteI concede your point on Cruz. I can't help feeling there is a bit of opportunist about him ( but far less than in Trump). Of the list of meh candidates I guess he gets my current lukewarm nod.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with the smoke filled room approach is that there is no doubt the Stupid Party would give us Bush, or heaven forbid, Christie, as a candidate. The GOP is terrified of conservatives. Perhaps as much as the average liberal.
Cruz has to get the question about his birth cleared up fast by the Supreme's. Trump is correct the Demo's will attack on that, the same ones that defended Obozo's birth place.

Why does Cruz need a Supreme Court nod on his citizenship? McCain didn't.
