As near as I can tell by reading the news, Obama thinks it right and proper that Vietnam be able to defend itself and will even provide the weapons. You and I, good Americans, he does not think we should have that right, even when it is right there in the Constitution. Even if we are willing to provide our own guns.
Is there any totalatarian government, communist mofo, or American enemy's asshole that Obama won't bend down and kiss?
We left enough weapons there that they shouldn't have to buy any for a long time.
ReplyDeleteJOG.
In this case, it may be warranted; Vietnam and China have a long, LONG time enmity for each other, and Vietnam is as concerned as we are (or as we ought to be) about Chinese attempts to spread their hegemony over the entire Sea of China.
ReplyDeleteI won't go so far as to say the enemy of my enemy is my friend (because, according to Maxim 29, "The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less."), but letting Vietnam buy modern arms from us to defend itself against the encroachment of Chinese hegemony into what ought to be international waters doesn't seem like a terrible idea to me.
I'll take the long view on this one.
