Seeing that little boy in that tiny casket is an image that will be seared into my memory forever. The grief of my daughter and son-in-law was palpable. After an immediate-family-only viewing at the funeral home there was a graveside service. There were so many people there.
I was honored, along with the other grandfather, to be a pallbearer. The little casket weighed hardly anything and still felt like I was carrying ten thousand pounds.
The hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was hold my little boy, as he held his little boy, as he died in his arms. Little Henley was seven days old.
ReplyDeleteThere are no words that give comfort at this time, but please know that there are others who understand your profound grief.

ReplyDeleteQuite a burden.
My son who has been a pallbearer in the burial at the funeral of his best friends infant twins, once said to me that the smallest caskets were the heaviest.
ReplyDeleteYour family is in my prayers.

Jon,
ReplyDeleteI am profoundly sorry for your loss. I’m sure Henley was a sweet boy.
These posts about his death left me in tears and feeling profoundly grateful I bore three perfect infants and that they are adults. I don't think I could bear what you and daughter and family are going through. Okay, still crying and typing. It is no comfort, but I am so sorry for it all.
