I made a quick plane trip to southern climes for business this week. I have no interesting travel stories to report. It was nearly 70 in Alabama yesterday afternoon. It somewhere below "colder than heck" when I arrived back in Indy last night.
I drove across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. I ate some good BBQ. Not at the bridge. The two are not related beyond both occurred while I was in Alabama.
I have not been to Alabama for a long time. We vacationed at the Redneck Riviera a few years ago. I used to go there on business a couple of times a year back in the 90's. Like most places in the South, the people were nice and friendly.
There was another dusting of snow on the drive when I got up this morning. I am ready for spring.

On sluggy's blog I read this as scriptures. I live in Al about 50 miles north of Birmingham. It was above 60 yesterday. We often have snow and freezing weather in the ne part of the state and 80s on the beach and on the Gulf. What was the name of the place where you ate bbq?
The BBQ place was Jim 'N Nicks in Prattville, down near Montgomery. It may, or may not, be a chain.
Back in the day I used to fly into Birmingham.
It is a chain and very delicious. We have one here. It started in B'ham and quickly grew to a chain.
Good slaw, great collard greens, nice big helping of pulled pork. I would rather have corn bread over the biscuits though.
I remember back in the day in Indiana what we called Barbque, sad. I have come to believe that northern cooking is for survival, southern cooking is for comfort.

I should open a Sonny's here in Michigan.
Akron didn't get a dusting, we got dumped on. So far, no plows or salt trucks have been seen in the neighborhood. Rumor has it that salt supplies are running very low. Predicting more snow every day this week. Schools closed again today. If this keeps up, the kids won't get a summer break making up for all the snow/cold days.
C'mon Spring!
Jean
Schools closed could be a good thing to help with the flue crisis.
JOG
I bet This time of year makes you wish you were back in Florida, Jean!
JOG...good point. It's hitting the kids pretty hard.
Joe, I must admit, memories of walking the beach in the winter in Florida make me a little teary.
Joe, soon you will be honored with a bill in the mail for your use of the bridges crossing the Ohio river in Louisville. An honor indeed.
