Too many politicians at every level seem to forget that the funds in that budget came straight and directly from the labors of another. The government has no money but that they have taken in taxes. It is not their money. It is my money and your money (and our great great grandchildren’s money).
I don’t understand how you get a tax “refund” when you don’t pay taxes.
I do not understand how one person should pay a higher percentage of his income in taxes than another. 10, 20, or 25% is the same tax burden no matter if your income is $25,000 or $250,000. I also believe every one should pay taxes. We all need a little skin in the game.
I don’t understand why it is an issue to show ID to vote. You have to show one to get unemployment, other benefits, or even get a COVID shot.
I do not believe it is the role of the government to compel us to buy anything, be it an insurance policy or an electric car. That does not mean I am against safety standards or clean air or water. But yes, I have issues with seat belt laws (I never start my car without mine on) or CAFE standards. If I want to buy a car that gets five miles to a gallon, it is my money to waste on gas.
I believe we should judge a person on the content of his character, not the color of his skin. Period. That works both ways. There is no reason to have hate crime laws. A crime is a crime. Intent is not relevant.
Everyone should have equal opportunity. That doesn’t mean equal results. Some people are smarter than others. Some are better athletes. We all can’t be winners, be it the soccer field, or in life.
No one is guaranteed a right not to be offended. If people say or do stuff I find offensive I remove them from my life. Sometimes a joke is a joke. If you don’t find it funny, move on.
I believe the market will solve most problems. The law of supply and demand is immutable. To reference a post from a few days ago, if there is a demand for electric cars, the market will provide those vehicles. Not the government.
If these ideas make me a knuckle dragging Neanderthal, so be it.
I write this knowing these positions will be evidence at my coming show trial.
Edit: Every day I read Rotten Chestnuts and think that is exactly what I wish my blog was like. The linked post is even tangentially related to this mediocre post.

All good and valid points.
And I just listened to Traffic and that song a couple days ago.
Well I fear you and I, and my husband are way behind on the times. Some people like being told what to do and let is being taken care of.
Looking forward to that show trial!

Cappy!
I never though that movie was prophesy.
How wrong I was.
Tax money goes for schools, roads, police, courts, government, etc... all the things davey crocket probably didn't need for his time. But guess what we do and the stakes are even higher. If we don't up our game we will all need to learn chinese. We are in a high stakes race in technology and move our citizens forward to protect everyone. This includes environmental changes, increasing strength of communist governments etc... The next war will not be won by private companies.... and for a country to "be best" it has to sacrifice for the future. We have oodles of freedoms and preserving some of these is important but also understanding lots of rules and programs are needed to keep those freedoms is important. Balance is the key. The conservative attitude of " small government" is antiquated at the least and disasterous for our future. Good government is what we need. One that takes care of its citizens and propels them to their highest potential.
My arguement to davey neaderthal crocket is " what you help that widow become is the most important thing for all of us, give help and also provide opportunity so that the help she received she will give back 10 times in service to humanity in the role she plays in society" stop thinking about what is being "taken" from you and think about what you are "given".
You have great opportunities, we all do, your wasting yours by just bitching about what everyone else is "getting" "what you are being forced to do" Im sure in the future if you wish to drive a gas sucking smoke bellowing machine you can do so you will just have to put more effort in creating your own or perserving an old machine. I see some model T cars are still around. but most of the population seems to like the new models better. Better yet I'm sure there is some horses and carts around or you have your own two feet. Oh and guess what those interstate highways you drive on... government done..... schools for your kids and grandkids... the "gov" public utilites... yet you guessed it gov. Oh and the military that protect s you from learning russian and chinese. "gov" the anti monopoly laws, and environmental laws that keeps that private enterprise that you think is the beginning and the end and drives everything from destroying the water and air and price fixing what ever they want to charge... yep you guessed it "gov". The universities that educate our kids that can't afford private colleges "gov" I could go on and on and on. Real life is a lot different than your daniel boone attitude on government.... lots different... a good gander into some of the practices of people and business left on their own without government is not pretty. I know the films make it look so and books romanticize the idea but those of us that study human behavior know its not pretty.. Jan 6 is a perfect picture of that. Yes and government has its problems also but we are government and we can change whats not right. Its when small groups try to take over or control because they know better thats when it goes bad. Real government is messy ugly and lots of battles but done right its great, done wrong and its like a lot of failed marriages.

Limited government is quite different from “no” government. Why is it big government types always think limited government means no FDA, or dirty air?
Besides, the States are welcome to do as they see fit, perhaps you should take a gander at the Ninth and Tenth Amendments. Just like a manufacturing facility should push decisions and inventory to the lowest level possible, government should too. Most decisions should be made at the State and local level, not the Federal level. Certainly no unelected bureaucrat should ever have the power to make law. Ever. In my post a few days ago, that jackass Senator should not mandate what Americans must buy, but especially he should not abrogate his legislative duty by proposing the EPA do what he lacks the fortitude to introduce as legislation. Mostly because he knows such an overweening power grab means he will lose his lucrative cushy elected office.
I never had an issue with roads, schools, etc. nor have I said so. I do believe education is a local or state issue and the Feds should stay out of it.
I the military and protection of the citizens is the promise roll of the government.
I’m all for a helping hand, not a hand out.
You sure make a lot of assumptions about me all while berating me for stereotyping.
Role
I base my comments on your own statements. I don't put things there that you haven't said. Maybe you don't realize how some things are perceived that you say or that your commentors have no recollection of your previous post. One elected official talk is not the last word. Unlike what "dump" thought. It will be worked on and a plan will come out. Think you're getting your tidy whities in a knot unnecessarily. Chill dude.
FWIW whatever had been redirecting my blog for many years isn't doing it anymore. So the link in your blogroll is live, again.
Anonymous,
I defy you to find one occasion in the 7,028 posts there on the right where I have said the government should not generally fund education.
You won’t find it. ( we may quibble on the amount of funding, but that is different).
Same for defense or the interstate highways (which were built ostensibly for defense BTW).
So, no, you are projecting what you think I believe, not what I say or write.
It takes a huge amount of people to handle the complexity of our government. And as times and progress and population goes along, your idea of "small government" is not effective. You now have to have internet laws, regulation, monitoring, structure, etc... things that we not here 100 years ago. The population and their needs, changing transportation and supporting aspects new inventions etc... we are now a large lumbering giant of a structure that a slim toothpick of a support structure will not support. We also have become more complex and progressed in our attitudes which need more structure as well.
We also live our lives differently. Look at our personal houses. Why can't the ideas you want to apply to government apply to our own personal behavior.
Do you only have the square footage to support your current needs. Are you only having a house that meets the basic needs? I doubt that. You are asking "government" to be something your not. Dishes, clothes, electronics, towels, etc.. the list goes on. If we are government what we are and think reflects in it. If you spend more than you have (which is basically any debt) then why do you expect of government? Is this the do what I say not what I do?
Look to thy self "physician" to heal.
My projection is based on the overall tone of the subjects and matter as you portray them. There will be no specifics in your post most likely. Its a summary of the overall message and theme of your posts. I don't think you are asking for total defunding of these items but your concepts of what will not only sustain them but advance as well is "under valued". Life is not mayberry anymore, Its almost to george jetson. There is no more 10 cent soda pop. There are thousands of drink choices and the prices vary greatly. Life is advanced, complex, and anything but simple anymore. Your asking your government to be a mom and pop grocery store in an age of mega stores.
Not a good outcome.

When the US Code has more than 4,500 separate crimes listed and countless acts, laws, and rulings in addition, that is not a government that has grown with 5ne times, it is a bloated bureaucracy with plenty to be cut.
have you thought why so many? Its a define and redefine and redefine the redefine. The reason Exceptions Its like a question that leads to more questions that leads to more questions. And if it is not spelled out people will come up with ways to skirt. We humans are very creative in coming up with new pathways. Its also a way to reference previous decisions made.
Its rules that help our society work and function. It is not perfect but its a work in progress. Again stop worrying about the size, worry about the performance. Worry about people that sell lies, self interest, corruption, cronies, hidden agendas, manipulation ... don't let them feed off your fears, and the bias. That is the real danger. See who really is behind the curtain and what they are trying to manipulate you with.
That corruption hides behind that leviathan. A smaller skinnier government shows the warts and imperfections more clearly.
