It is not plain enough on my screen to see what it is or what it holding in each hanbut then again I am no real expert on American literature because I prefer to read writers who are understandable.
The statue is of Balsar and his captured bear cubs from The Bears of Blue River by Charles Major. If you have not read it you should. It is a graet glimpse of early 19th century life.
