Explain it all with a sigh

Tuesday. After a record warm day yesterday we are right back into the clutches of winter today. It may snow tomorrow.

Stupid rodent.

It appears Mexico and Canada caved and the tariffs on those trading partners are on hold for now. That’s a good thing.

It is okay to disagree with the president and not automatically be a liberal somewhere to the left of Nancy Pelosi. Anyone who knows me would bust a gut in laughter to think I’m a leftist. I used to say I would like Rush Limbaugh if he could only be a little more conservative.

I do reject the notion there is some kind of conservative purity test and we all have to toe the line or else. That’s the same kind of nitwittery the far left has adopted to drag their party into political correctness and losing elections. It is okay to disagree with Trump.

Here’s the thing, friends can politely disagree. I suspect I have far more experience dealing with anti-dumping duties and tariffs as part of my job than most of you. I have dealt with them in one way or another for more than thirty years. Duties and tariffs inflate the market, cause short-term shortages and supply chain disruption. In the end, the prices settle at a higher rate as the cheap products carry the tariff burden and the higher domestic goods use the new reset market price as an opportunity to slowly increase prices to maintain the status quo.

We need some music. Economics gives me a headache.

Your definition of "folding" is interesting. Are Canada and Mexico going to be paying tariffs to the U.S.? NO. Were concessions made on *both sides*? YES. Canada agreed to a board *that is already in place* and to appoint a "fentanyl czar." That's the whole big agreement. Trudeau can appoint anyone he likes to the czar position and stuff him or her in a back office in Ottawa. In other words, not a fold. Canada told Trump, you want tariffs? Well, here they are right back at you . . . and suddenly there were concessions. And no more talk of Canada becoming the 51st state. What Trump accomplished was the destruction of the long, peaceful, and productive relationship we've had with Canada for many years. And Mexico? They agreed to 10,000 Mexican national guard at the border. They already have 15,000 there, so that's a potential net loss to the U.S. of 5,000 Mexican personnel. The U.S. agreed to increase their efforts to stop weapons from crossing the border. Sorry, that's not Mexico "folding."

All this tariff stuff has been smoke and mirrors to cover this:
"The DOGE team, which appears to be mainly or only (Marko) Elez (age 25) for the purposes of this project, has already made extensive changes to the code base for the payment system. They have not locked out the existing programmer/engineering staff but have rather leaned on them for assistance, which they appear to have painedly provided hoping to prevent as much damage as possible — “damage” in the sense not of preventing the intended changes but avoiding crashes or a system-wide breakdown caused by rapidly pushing new code into production with a limited knowledge of the system and its dependencies across the federal government."

That payment system is your tax refund, your Social Security, your Medicare payments, your veterans payments, your private financial information, and much, much more. Seriously, is this what you voted for? A private 25-year old individual messing with this?

When the information bubble you live in pops, it's going to be LOUD and HUGE. And the results are going to last for a long, long time.

Since you're so focused on age: Any comments on the 80-year-old meat puppet destroying the world for the last 4 years?

BTW Ekez was already a government employee and had those same capabilities prior.

If you think Musk wants to steal your Medicare and SS payments you need to loosen up that tin foil hat a little bit

This is Jackie from CA. I would like to stress what I have always appreciated about this blog, and what Joe said, you can disagree politely. Though Joe and I disagree on many issues, I have never once felt disrespected by him when I expressed my opinions. I agree with Joe on this, however. It is economics at work, and he certainly has more knowledge of the subject than I do. Also, as I have said before, if you remain anonymous and will not put your name to claim your opinions, it's hard to respect anything you say.

Elon Musk is currently a special government employee--this is a real category--with a top-secret security clearance that was granted by the BIDEN administration,

Elez is also a government employee. Do you think he is the only 25 year old with clearance or access to stuff?

Joe

Jackie: I have received some not-so-nice backlash from Joe in the past but to his credit he did return later and made what I consider an apology of sorts - it was appreciated. I work to avoid name-calling, etc. when I post - I may have differences with regular posters/readers here but I am honestly interested in their opinions. For example, I don’t understand why no one here’s hair is not on fire over Musk’s intrusion into the Treasury payment files. Do they all think their files/payments or those to family members will be passed over or ??? I’m genuinely curious.

I could post my name but don’t think it makes a difference. Am I Elaine? Randi? Kim? Something else? The name doesn’t make a difference so I prefer to post as anonymous. If Joe doesn’t like it he can ban me - it’s his prerogative.
