Traveling three miles a day

The short-lived Pony Express delivered mail between St Joseph, Missouri and San Francisco. The journey took ten days and covered about 1,900 miles. In the two years or so of operation the Pony Express never lost a package.

I bring this up because I received an envelope from my brother yesterday delivered by the US Postal Service. It traveled just over 50 miles.

It took 16 days.

According to my handy maps app on my phone I could walk the distance in two days. I’m skeptical, let’s say three days for a reasonably fit youth. A rider from the Tour de France could cover the distance in about two hours on his bike. The aforementioned Pony Express could have delivered my package in about six hours.

You may draw your own conclusions.

Are you saying the USPS sucks?? Our postal service when I was in Lousyana, I called the Cajun Pony Express. Perhaps I was giving them more credit than they deserved. I believe an alligator could have delivered your letter in 1.5 days....if he was motivated.

Yep. So stupid. I'm pretty sure that if you send mail from South Bend to Mishawaka (two cities right next to each other), it has to go to Fort Wayne first.

But do send it now because next month the stamp will probably go up another dime.

And if you spend 72 cents to send it and it never gets there at all, well, sucks to be you.

Screw the mail.

The USPS has really screwed the pooch with their regional processing centers.

If I send a bill, card, anything by mail here in the western edge of Ky it has to go to Indiana. So if you get my mail by accident please send it back by pony express. I'll meet you at the border as it would be faster. Sent card to friend 9 miles away, she received it 8 days later.

I love the fact that you can pay the USPS for "overnight" delivery but they won't guarantee overnight delivery......
