Politically, he must withdraw. It will cost too much political capital to push him through. There is no time to vet another candidate before the October session of the Court nor before the midterms. That was the point of holding onto Ford's accusation all along, n'est pas?
Maybe both women are telling the truth.
Maybe it is just the dirtiest of dirty politics. Will these accusers fade into history, the deed done? Will they insist the Judge be impeached from the Court of Appeals in ignominious humiliation?
The rank politics of the timing sickens me.
If it is just politics, the Democrats will be sorry. Mother Teresa is dead. No other candidate will be able to pass muster if they so much as spit on the sidewalk as a youth. And the low esteem we all hold Congress will sink yet more until one day a strong President and Praetorian Guard of bureaucrats decides Congress serves no function beyond upholding the ceremonial pretensions of The Republic and a true dictatorship is born.
Or Kavenaugh is a serial sexual miscreant. Time will tell.
I'm now motivated to vote in the midterms.

Yes, call me even more skeptical of woman #2:
In her initial conversations with The New Yorker, she was Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away.
Even CNN and the NYT are a bit wary of this one.
