I guess Trump didn’t read the polls leading to his election. I’m not surprised, a narcissist like he could never grasp that people voted against Harris and her policies as much as for his policies. I held my nose and voted for him.
The overriding issue in the recent election was the economy, namely inflation. So what does the president do? Implement tariffs on three of our largest trading partners.
You would think Trump, or at least his advisors, would understand that tariffs are not paid by the exporters but by the importers. That means you and I will pay higher prices. Do you think Walmart or Target* are going to eat a higher cost and not pass it on?
For instance we are in the winter here, some of the produce you get at the local market comes from Mexico. Guess what? Your groceries are going up. Again.
Here’s the thing, if China is too expensive then manufacturers will move to Vietnam, Malaysia, or India. It has already happened with clothing and athletic shoes. Read a label. They are not reopening mills in the Carolinas. Americans aren’t going to pay $25 for a pair of tighty whiteys.
We live in a global economy.
We make a lot of stuff in America. But it takes years to build and open a factory. In the meantime you and I try to get by with thinner wallets.
I guess Trump wants the loathsome Democrats back running Congress in two years.
*or Ford or GM, or Home Depot, etc.

I think the tariffs were a distraction from something far more devious and corrupt going on behind the scenes. At the exact same moment, Elon Musk, a private citizen who donated over a quarter of a billion dollars to ensure Thump’s victory, was not only granted access to the Treasury but has taken the role of overriding congressionally approved funding, an illegal and unconstitutional act. Had Trump not implemented the tariffs, Musk would have been at the top of the page.
You're not seeing the big picture.
I hope it's a negotiating point. He may have whiffed this one.
I am quite sure the car and laptop I want/need will not be affected too much pricewise.
Japanese automakers and related businesses in the SE, who are MAJOR employers in the area (yes, your Japanese car is made in America) are backing off, with some already shutting down and others moving toward pulling out. Some are downsizing and offering buyouts, for now (i.e. Nissan). They can already see the writing on the wall, the big picture if you will.

"government-funded Non-Governmental Organizations"
NGOs... You know, the groups responsible for flying illegals into your town in the middle of the night, and helping them live in your country for free. All on your dime.
"For this reason alone, President Donald Trump’s decision to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and departments from government departments is a critically important start."

Since your commenter/lib-bot had to bring up Musk in comments on a post about tariffs...
"Canada has been very abusive of the United States for many years. They don't allow our banks," Trump claimed. "And you know that Canada does not allow banks to go in, if you think about it. That's pretty amazing. If we have a U.S. bank, they don't allow them to go in."
"Canada has been very tough for oil on energy. They don't allow our farm products in, essentially. They don't allow a lot of things in. And we allow everything to come in as being a one-way street."
Trump also claimed that the U.S. subsidizes Canada "by the tune of about $200 billion a year."
"And for what? What do we get out of it? We don't get anything out of it," he added. "I love the people of Canada. I disagree with the leadership of Canada and something is going to happen there."
The Republican leader also said that he will "definitely" impose tariffs against the European Union, which he said the U.S. has a $300 billion trade deficit with.
"They don't take our cars, they don't take our farm products, they take almost nothing," Trump said. "And we take everything from them. Millions of cars, tremendous amounts of food and farm products. So the UK is way out of line and we'll see the UK, but the European Union is really out of line."
Kinda looks like Mexico folded...........................
Trump's tariff worked.
Mexico already has 15,000 of their national guard is already at the border; doubt they’ll increase that. Good luck stopping weapons at the border as well for our side. Tariff on produce (among other things) coming over the border and the increase in cost to American consumers? I’d think again about who “folded.”
Maybe its about saving American lives?
