If I was king of the forrrressst

If I was head of the GOP, and I wanted to shed the image of the "old guy party", I would push hard and fast for a legal drinking age of 19. It is silly that you can don the uniform of the US and not drink a beer. Lowering the drinking age would help reduce the chronic binge drinking on college campuses.

Lower the legal drinking age for those in uniform.
There's an enlistment poster.

They tried 18 and 19 in many states in the 70s. I remember a lot of people from Chicago and NW Indiana driving up to the border bars on US 41/I-94 across the Wisconsin state line, where the age was 18. It was 19 in Illinois. Of course when my time came around, all the states went to 21. Funny, when I was stationed in Germany you could belly up to the bar at 16 and still, they didn't have a binge drinking and crash driving epidemic.

If it were 18 nationally, kids wouldn't be driving across state lines to get beered up, and then get killed or pulled over for DUI on the ride home.

But what really needs to happen is all the remaining Temperance Movement people need to die off so we can get rid of minimum drinking ages altogether. People act like it's always been that way -- well, it hasn't.
