On the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Thank you to every veteran who did their duty in order that I can live free.

Our students were ultra quiet and respectful ( 1 or 2 exceptions) during our Veteran's Day program. We had vets present from WW 2 to a young woman just back from the Middle East. The band played, the choir sang, students read essays and I saluted every one of the veterans who were there. Politics aside, this event gets to me every year, especially seeing The WW2 and Korean vets whose numbers are ever dwindling.

Sounds like a great program
