We need to look no further than California (yet again) to see the lunacy of the leftist agenda. The state for years has electricity shortages; resorting to rolling blackouts and brownouts through the summer months. Unable to produce enough power themselves because they have rejected nukes, hydroelectric, and coal, they must buy electricity from adjoining states. *
Since there is a shortage of electricity to power their daily needs, the Wish Legislators (I wish it so therefore it shall be) have decreed that henceforth only electric cars shall be sold in California. They might as well demand everyone ride a bike, because that’s what you Californians will be doing when there is no electricity to charge your car battery.
I foresee a California that looks like modern Cuba where old cars are lovingly and painstakingly maintained so that reliable transportation can be found. I also see the California Legislators scratching their heads in wonder when the discover all that gas tax has disappeared from their already overextended coffers.

It's a radical move but change sometimes needs that. The state is pushing more passive forms such as wind and solar. Something has to be done. Instead of criticize what do you bring to the table? Do you recycle, reuse, combine errands, walk, consume less, .....or are you just a typical armchair quarterback? What are you bringing to the game?

There is nothing original in those cars. They are all Russian diesel engines and transmissions with American shells chopped to make convertibles. And the diesel smell never leaves no matter how much wind there is.

Frankly I have no issue with using the gamut, INCLUDING FOSSIL FUELS — nukes, hydro, solar, wind, biomass, whatever until a “better” solution comes around.
I don’t recycle any more because most of your recycled goods end up in the landfill. There is no market for the vast majority of the plastics. Look it up.
I don’t have answers. Dreaming we can power cars with unicorn farts isn’t one either.
Depending on wind and sun for energy is why California hasn’t enough electricity.
Battery powered cars may work if you live in an urban area and have short drives. For many of us it is a non starter when a battery gets max 500 miles range. I have often driven further than that in a day.
More importantly, it should not be up to the government to tell me what I can and cannot drive beyond requiring it is not a danger TO OTHER DRIVERS (and yes I have an issue with seatbelt laws but wear mine even when backing the car out of the garage).
If you don’t see the irony and ridiculousness of this mandate then I don’t know what to say beyond I think you are just trying to be argumentative.
In addition to the range problem, which will likely be resolved by the time this "law" takes effect, there's the problem of the waste and damage to Gaia that happens in the mining and manufacturing process for the batteries.
And I made the same comment about CA becoming Cuba so far as cars are concerned. The only problem I foresee?

This country sucks for mass transit. People drive massive vehicles. They also don't make efforts to conserve or reuse. Until they are forced to they will not make the necessary changes. That's the reason for mandates laws etc... let's get real.
Anonymous, California has pushed and pushed solar panels for years and new houses can't be built without them. Read an article about a month ago that Ca can't find a way to dispose of the panels that have worn out. Landfill won't take them, nobody will buy them. Forbes recently published an article about this also. List of chemicals used in the making are toxic. So if you have to replace them you get to pile them up in your yard for an unsightly mess and leak the chemicals into your yard. Someone years ago made a decree and didn't look into the future and didn't look at what the items were made of. So this was a forced change and certainly not for the better.
One example makes the rule????? Some ingenuity is needed to come up with solutions. Stop being the whiners, nay sayers, don't tell me what to do arrogant ass, and start making things better. Everything has problems and never has a straight answer. It's those that find opportunities from problems that become successful. Stop your critizing and come up with something better or at a minimum do what you can. It's easy to flap your lips and bitch. What's your effort? Yeah, just what I thought.

I'm not the one bitching about California. Since they are burning to the ground I understand why they are desperate for a solution. You seem to forget how their situation is. You snark about everything. What I'm doing is driving small vehicles, recycling, consolidating errands, buying used, repairing and reworking what I have, no debt, fiscal conservative, minimalist on possessions, so basically a tree hugging, bun wearing liberal you snark at. Proud of it. I'm also a pretty happy and content person, like I try to get people to see positives and solutions. Haven't had any success on your platform. So I'll take my happy, debt free, positive can do attitude, help people that I can help and wish you well.
What does electric cars or unsustainable energy po,icy have to do with wildfires?
Remember: This isn't a law, it's an executive order. It can be rescinded or modified by the next governor, or overridden by the legislature.
Comrade Newsom knows he will never have to enforce this order as he'll be out of office before it takes effect. It's all about the optics.
Personally, I think all of the automotive manufacturers should stop selling cars in California. No more special California emissions controls to make the cost of cars skyrocket. Either accept the same emissions standards as the rest of the country, or go back to the horse and buggy. Or shanks' mare.
