As if many of us needed a reason to understand the Federal Government has become way too powerful, way too intrusive, on the everyday lives of its citizens, we learn that the Feds are even regulating what font your city and town must use on your local street signs. link
It is bad enough far-away bureaucrats are determining how much you should weigh, what your kids learn and eat in school, what kind of car you should drive and, if Obama has his way, what temperature you set your thermostat. Now they Feds know best what lettering should be on the street sign down on the corner.
Is there anything those fuckers won't try to regulate? No wonder the Tea Party Movement is growing.

I guess those standardized "white letter on reflective green background" street signs are supposed to be so wonderful. I liked it when each region had its own distinctive style, and once you saw the lettering for the first time, now you know what you're looking at. The stamped metal ones were great - even when the paint wore off, you could read the sign.
They will come up with a regulation on how far apart the center of your eyes are supposed to be if you let them. That is the nature of government, or at least bureaucracy. I saw it in the army, where they even had a rule on the proper way to cut toenails.
I've always thought the white letter on green background signs were particularly difficult to read at night -- and moreso when it rains.
I much prefer the old black on white ones we used to have in Indy.
