The philosophy of blogging

If you are holding anything put it down.  Now take a close look at that hand. What do you see?

If your answer was “nothing”, then that is my blogging brain today. I’ve got nothing.

She helped me with my suitcase

One of my favorite songs from CSN (written by Graham Nash).  I suppose I like it because I spent so much of my life living out of a suitcase. It seemed as if I was always leaving.

Not original, but a great idea

Any WNBA player who refuses to be on the court for the National Anthem should be banned from representing the US in ANY international competition, including the Olympics.

Free speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

Fan Dancing

Sally Rand was arrested four times in one day at the Chicago World’s fair in 1933. She was allowed to continue her performances anyway.

The France concession, where she performed, was the most profitable area of the exposition.

Go figure.

What book were you forced to read in high school that turned out to be better than you expected?

Fry Day

And now the great weather packs its bags and heads to other climes. We are going from shorts and T-shirts to high trmps in the fifties and nighttime lows in the mid-thirties. I suspect the accompanying wind will bring down some leaves, so there is no doubt I will complain about that in upcoming posts.

We are taking the grandgirls to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum today. They have been there countless times, but love it anyway. Both girls specifically asked if I’d go along, so that’s a nice thing.

Obtuse Observation

I encountered a bumper sticker yesterday that has me confused.

Normally, I consider myself a fairly astute when it comes to politics, but today I am not so sure. Here is what it said;

Make Iran Great Again

My first reaction was almost instant anger. Perhaps it was an instinctive reaction to the large Muslim population in the area. I immediately interpreted the slogan as pro-Iranian. Since I’m of a certain age, I’ve had strong feelings about Iran since the Hostage Crisis. Sorry, I’m not sorry at all.

After a few minutes I thought maybe the bumper sticker (it was actually on the back window of an SUV) might have been a play on the President’s slogan of Make America Great Again, supporting the current conflict with Iran?

What do you think it means? I guess I’ll blame the slogan itself for a total lack of clarity.

Hmmm, maybe that’s the point…

When you throw up last night’s dinner

I am not sure why some of you cannot understand that the revulsion, disdain, and certainty that Trump is evil and ruining the country is exactly how half the country felt about Obama and Biden.

In fact, my feelings about those two is even stronger now that I see the direction the Democrats are heading.

Short work week

Here we are back at Monday yet again. I have a couple of meetings today and and other work I have to get done and then I’m heading off on vacation the rest of the week starting tomorrow.

Nope, to answer your question, it is a staycation. Not going anywhere nor doing anything of importance. I have more than three weeks of vacation moving to use-it-or-lose-it status by year end. I can roll over five days, but I’ll gain three comp days when I travel to and from to China over two weekends next month.

It is a good problem to have, unless you don’t have the money to go anyplace. I do have lots of yard work and a whole list of projects, so I do not suppose I’ll be idle. And of course I will work. I’ve never taken a whole week off . I’ll just do it for an hour or so in the morning, and check emails at night…

Baseball been berry berry good to me

I just cannot get excited about the baseball playoffs. Look at who is still involved. Who can I care about?

The Dodgers? Nope Buying championships rings hallow.

The Yankees? I would rather root for any other team in baseball.

The Sox, Rays, Guardians? The American League is responsible for the designated hitter, I cannot forgive that abomination.

Milwaukee? As a Cubs man that is almost as bad as cheering for the Cardinals.

The Padres? 1984. "Nuff said.

I might have hoped for Cleveland,  despite the DH thing, since they now have the longest streak since they last one a World Series, but getting rid of the Indians moniker for something as stupid as "Guardians" keeps me from caring. Sorry Jean.

So, baseball ended early for me this year.

Edit. I know some of the series have ended and a couple of teams moved on yesterday. I'm an idiot and failed to move this from draft earlier. Send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and I will refund your subscription fee for this month. Satisfaction guaranteed and all that.

That one little table that you left us

It is a chilly 41F this morning.  I don't mind, it will be sunny and the 70s this afternoon. Other than the usual autumn allergy headaches and sneezing, the weather this time of year is glorious.

After a taco dinner, the youngest and I moseyed over to the Nickleplate Trail.* She zipped ahead on her bike while I walked. After she got far enough ahead, she stopped for me to catch up. That girl can really zoom on her bike.

While limping down the old rail right of way, some classic George Jones popped into my head.

Have a productive Tuesday.

*Of course the Nickleplate Trail means nothing to you unless you are a local. It is an old train right of way turned into a bike / walking trail. On a completely unrelated note,  my great grandfather and my dad both worked for the Nickleplate Railroad -- Grandpa for his whole life, Dad for a short stint before my brother and I were born.

A brief change in the routine

The granddaughters are staying with us most of this week. They came Saturday evening. My daughter and SIL took a mini trip to celebrate my daughter's fortieth b-day. I'm glad they feel comfortable enough to let the girls stay with us and the girls are pleased to do so. They both spent every day here from the time they were born until they went to school and the wife still gets them off the bus and watches them until the parents get home from work.

It will be a busy week. Already they are banging around getting ready for school. Mornings before work are usually my quiet time, but I'll gladly give it up to see those little faces.

Yet another one

Today is my son’s birthday. He..,

What? No, I’m not confused. He…What?

No, this isn’t a rerun. I have two sons.

Today is my son’s birthday. He…

Yes, their birthdays are one day apart. If you search the archives over there on the right, you will see my daughter’s birthday was a mere two weeks ago.

You are moving your lips as you count on your fingers. Yes, New Year’s used to be pretty fun at my house.

Anyway it is my son’s birthday today.

Birthday season has come to a close.

Man I miss the holidays…
