President Trump wants to make flag burning a crime. He is wrong on this.
The First Amendment exists to protect the speech we find most offensive.
A few weeks ago a dozen or so idiots walked around downtown Indianapolis waving swastikas. They were mostly ignored and that is the best weapon against a-holes of that ilk.
Last week a bunch of people held a counter rally downtown. Whatever, but this bigger rally drew far more attention to the hate mongers than the original Nazi rally ever did..
More disturbing was the number of people at the “love” rally calling for more stringent hate crime laws.
NO NO NO.
Once again, in case I’ve not been clear, the First Amendment exists to protect the speech we find most offensive. Repeat it until you get it fixed in your brain. It is not up to the government nor even the majority to determine what is offensive. There is no right to never having hurt feelings.
Burn the flag, be an un-American jerk. Burn a cross, and show the world you are hate-filled bigoted scum. Wave a swastika and demonstrate to all your black shriveled evil heart. You have that right.
But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should, and the rest of us have the right to call you evil, despicable human beings. And have no doubt, you are.

Amen, Brother.
As long as this all works all the way though, If I am offended, and choose not to do business with you (say, bake you a cake or rent you an apartment, or even sell you a car) then that should be MY right as well.
If after burning your flag, you can't get served a meal, or a beer, well, those are consequences of free speech, and that is the right of the merchant as well.
Donnie doesn't seem to realize his limits imposed by the Constitution.
Exactly
Wasn't this decided by the Supreme Court long ago?
Yes, if I see you burning an American flag I'm gonna be ticked. But if you're a citizen, you have that right.
And if you're burning that flag while waiving a foreign flag? You're not gaining any support from me, and you're most likely a piece of...
Freddie
I don't disagree with you regarding the First amendment but unless it has been "amended" it states religion and then "or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So burning a flag that is an American symbol known around the world gives a person free 'speech' to burn a flag. Would this then be the right of people to show their displeasure with society by burning a city? Or taking over a police department isn't that their free speech being used. No one ever seem to get prosecuted for these 'free speech' actions. So how did we get from this to what we know today?
Trump said he knows the Supreme Court will get involved which is why I think he did this.
The EO recognizes the First Amendment and the Supreme Court decision that allows for burning.

Please tell me that you are not as stupid as the above comment/question makes you look....
One is vandalism ...the other is the occupation of property.
If you buy a flag and choose to burn it, then that is different. Your property, not public or someone else's property.
If you can't see the difference then you are not as intelligent as your words posted here make you appear.
