Of soldiers and their mothers

Reader Teresa's son leaves today for basic training to become an MP. She is justifiably concerned. Take time to let her know we are all proud of her son's service to our country. Please say prayer for them both, if you are so inclined.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men then himself."

I wish I had wrote this but it is a quote from John Stuart Mill. Mill was probably the libertarian of his age and a man who cherished liberty.

Thank you HB,..He told me that he couldn't call me after he landed today becuz of all the check in crap. I get very nervous when my loved ones fly. I am an RN and worked in Pediatrics when United flight 232 crashed here in Sioux City,..I had to tell kids that their parents were dead. Anyway, I just keep thinking about that movie "A Few Good Men" ,..Great movie,..Until it has the potential to become real. Or worse, should he make it through to be sent.
